O’s Notes: Saxophonist Cory Weeds transforms the classic R&B songs of Earth Wind & Fire to a swinging, hard blues, jazz set. Mike LeDonne’s (B3) presence gives the music a unique dimension. Dave Sikula (g) also does a fine job carrying the lead lines. The titles are familiar and the fresh approach gives them a rebirth that will appeal to jazz fans. Cory and his team state the original melodies and quickly move to jazzy improvisation that may lose some classic EWF lovers. But most of the arrangements result is a good listening experience, especially “Getaway”, “The Way Of The World” and “Kalimba”.
