O’s Notes: Bassist, composer, arranger and producer Dave Zinno leads a modern jazz quintet. Unisphere is tenor saxophonist Mike Tucker, Eric “Benny “ Bloom on trumpet, pianist Leo Genovese, drummer Rafael Barata and Zinno. The mix of Brazilian, Argentine and American musicians pack an abundance of Latin energy into this modern jazz set. Tucker contributes three originals, along with one from Genovese and two from the leader to go along with four reconstituted covers. “Remember When”, “Little Lillie”, “Recife Blues” and “South End Blues” are among the best. Tuckers work almost justifies co-billing with Zinno as both shine brightly.
