O’s Notes: Saxophonist Troy Roberts takes the lead role with a quartet including Silvano Monasterios (p), Robert Hurst (b) and Jeff “Tain” Watts (d). They perform six Roberts originals and three classics. Tain takes a lengthy solo on the opener “Decoration” bringing the drums into the spotlight here and on numerous occasions during the session. They swing hard on “Take The A Train” and “Bernie’s Tune” but step back to the cool swagger of “Pickapoppy”, our favorite in a strong session.
