O’s Notes: Michael Pagán is a composer of both jazz and classical works. On this occasion he decided to incorporate ample allotments of improvisation into a collections of preludes and fugues. The result is a more palatable (to a jazz fan) contemporary classical work. The Colorado Saxophone Quartet performs it masterfully. While it is certainly not our norm, we found ourselves listening appreciatively on many occasions. We especially enjoyed “Prelude VI” and “Fugue VI”.
