O’s Notes: Normally the music recorded on Adventure is Latin. While bassist, producer and composer Vasconcellos does include a few tunes with Latin flavors, this is a much broader effort. There is an ample dose of neobop/fusion highlighted by the syncopated groove on “Rome”. The opening bass solo for “Spiral” is melody but not flashy, a reflection of Vasconcellos’ style. He also shines when the pace slows down on “The Old City Ballad”. Guest guitarist Torcuato Mariano teams with Josue Lopez (sax) to lead the melody on “Puerto Madero”, another fine selection in what turns out to be a very well balanced and enjoyable set.
