O’s Notes: Rita’s voice is deep, warm and soulful. Her arrangements fall into her sweet spots and have enough difference to make these standards fresh. She also throws in a couple of originals, notably “In Case You Didn’t Know” with Nolan Shaheed (t). Nolan stars on “‘S Wonderful” and “Easy Living” as well, two highlights. Edmond uses two rhythm sections both anchored by drummer Tootie Heath and occasionally including a guest. Ricky Woodard adds rich sax solos on six selections including “Just Friends” and “You Don’t Know What Love Is”. Rita produces a balanced effort here using her support to make this a strong set.
