O’s Notes: Bassist Alexis Cuadrado explores the work of Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. Poeta en Nueva York was written while Lorca was visiting Columbia University in NY during 1929-30. The stock market crash (of 1929) was a major influence on this work. Here Lorca condemns capitalism in contrast with much of his earlier works. Claudia Acuña sings with Miguel Zenón (sax), Dan Tepfer (p), Mark Ferber (d) and Gilmar Gomes (perc) rounding out a fine ensemble. The music was composed and arranged by Cuadrado in rich dramatic fashion.
