O’s Notes: Clarinetist Aaron Irwin leads a modern jazz quartet on his latest release A Room Forever. The opening title track is jazz-fusion with a Hawaiian twist courtesy of Pete McCann’s work on guitar. Trombonist Matthew McDonald goes against the grain adding an element of free jazz while Irwin and bassist Thomas Kneeland hold things together. From there the music blossoms with the mellow tones of “In The Dry”, a theme that continues through the balance of the set including tastes of Latin and pop-laced jazz. Ultimately this is a tranquil session that evokes relaxation.
