O’s Notes: Pianist Mike Prigodich is a popular figure on the Portland jazz scene. His band members Damian Erskine (b), Reinhardt Melz (d), John Nastos and Patrick Lamb (sax), Brandon Woody (g), Paul Mazzio (t), Tim Jensen (fl), Rafael Trujillo (perc) and Toshi Onizuka (palmas) are also from the Portland area. They play jazz-fusion that is influenced heavily by Chick Corea especially on “Spanish Swordfight” and “Anneka’s Dance”. We also liked the mellow beats of “A Measure of Luck” and the syncopated rhythms on “Coreatown” with a cool solo from Woody. Mike wrote all of the music and provides the sheet music for each tune on his website, a nice touch.
