O’s Notes: Rodney sets the mood for this session immediately with a well-articulated guitar solo on “Barney’s Blues”. He shows why he is among the elite group of jazz guitarists! Lonnie Plaxico (b), Carl Allen (d) and Michael Kanan (p) form the rhythm section with Donald Harrison adding passion on sax. Jones combines three standards with eight originals. He mixes burners, blues and uses an acoustic guitar on a few ballads to impart a gentle touch. We really enjoyed the swinging “Blues Nexus”, “Stolen Moments” and “My Mother’s Smile” in a strong set.
