O’s Notes: Saxophonist Charlie Kolhase leads The Explorers Club, a band that has evolved as a unit over the last few years. They gather to collect their creative genius as often as they can. The members on this 2007 session are Jeff Galindo (tb), Matt Langley (sax), Eric Hofbauer (g), Miki Matsuki (d), Chris Punis (d) and of course Charlie who composed most of the music. It is a collection of free fusion where the musicians play off of each other generously. They result is adventurous but not as chaotic as some avant-garde where the soloists trip over each other. We enjoyed “The Alarm Clock Is My Only Kryptonite” and “Decide For Yourself” best.
