O’s Notes: Carlos takes a large stride on this collaboration with his wife. Both are accomplished pianists. The large ensemble behind them is the City of Prague Philharmonic. What makes the effort so daring is the combination of classical music with jazz improvisation. Many have made a mess of such attempts but Franzetti does a fine job here. Perhaps his success is interweaving the beat of both worlds so that fans of both genres can be appreciative without compromise. We enjoyed the depth and dynamics of “Pasacaglia” and the mystery surrounding “Iguazu” as it evolved into a mild samba. We appreciated the inspiration of Nascimento on “Mombasa” as well. Our favorite is “Alborada” a swinger tempered by the lush strings. Well done!
