O’s Notes: It’s no secret that we are big fans of veteran jazz guitarist Russell Malone. We have enjoyed his warm seemingly effortless style over many strong releases. He invites pianist Rick Germanson and drummer Willie Jones III from last year’s Love Looks Good On You [4+/3] and adds bassist Luke Sellick to round out the quartet on All About Melody his latest release. Russell takes the lead on ten classics plus his own “Message To Jim Hall” followed by “Message From Jim Hall”, appreciative comments from Hall after seeing Malone at the Blue Note. The program ranges from soft ballads like “When A Man Loves A Woman” to upbeat burners like “Biskit”. Russell handles them all with great poise.
