O’s Notes: Veteran jazz pianist Fred Hersch appeared solo at New York’s Village Vanguard in 2005 for a weeklong engagement. This recording captured the last set on the final night, Fred’s estimate of being ‘in the zone’. He played nine selections including both covers and originals. They range from the bubbly “Down Home” to warm ballads like “Pastorale” dedicated to Robert Schuman. We also enjoyed “Doce De Coco” and the encore “Doxy”.
