O’s Notes: He wasn’t as appreciated early on as he is now but Monk was a genius on the keyboard. This solo session was recorded over two days at San Francisco’s Fugazi Hall in 1959. There are eleven tracks including one alternate take of “There’s Danger In Your Eyes, Cherie”. The overall theme here is peaceful and blue with some his best stuff. “Blue Monk”, “Round Lights”, “Bluehawk” and “Reflections” are among the best. Monk combines his mastery of the off beats and syncopation with a soft tranquil mood to present a collection that shows his softer side!
