O’s Notes: Robin McKelle is blessed with a sultry voice that works on pop, soul and blues genres. She shines on her new release Alterations, a collection dedicated to some of the best women of song. The star-studded band includes Richie Goods (b), Nir Felder (g) and co-producer, pianist, arranger Shedrick Mitchell. We liked the fresh take on Sade’s “No Ordinary Love”, Winehouse’s “Back to Black” and “Don’t Explain”. Our favorite is McKelle’s passionate, romantic plea on Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” that will strike the chords of many hearts.
