O’s Notes: Cissoko is a griot singer from Senegal. He also plays the 21-stringed West African kora that includes both upper and lower registers. On the other side of the planet we find his partner based in New York City, the German-born trumpeter Volker Goetze. At first is seems like a weird combination but together they are well matched. Their music is quiet, peaceful and rich with warm textures. Ablate and Volker composed and arranged all seven songs and make Amanké Dionti a refreshing change of pace.
