O’s Notes: Tia leads a star-studded band to play her original compositions and some freshly arranged standards. The program is energetic starting with a bit of rage on “Royston Rumble” then softening with “Ralphie’s Groove”. Both feature John Patitucci on piccolo bass, two of his six appearances. Fuller plays sax and flute with a core rhythm section including Mimi Jones (b), Rudy Royston (d) and pianist Shamie Royston. As for ballads, we liked “Core of Me” with Fuller taking the lead line and “Body & Soul” featuring Diane Reeves (vocals). This is an excellent all around effort with virtuosity coming from many angles.
