O’s Notes: The quintet is Charles Davis (ts), Barry Harris (p), Walter Booker (b), Leroy Williams (d) and Roni on guitar. They swing with confidence through a few standards along with originals from Ben-Hur and Harris. The stage is never congested, allowing the true instrumental timbre to surface during solos. Ben-Hur’s work is both gentle and dynamic making his guitar sing the melodies. This set has all of the elements for good listening.
