O’s Notes: The New Arts Jazztet is Dick Kelley (as), Bob Allison (t), Tim Pitchford (tb), Ron Coulter (d), Mel Goot (p) and bassist/leader/producer Phil Brown. Phil composed 10 of the 11 compositions and Goot wrote “Demage”. The brass is rich and warm collectively and on solos and the rhythm section is perky and energizing leading to a well-rounded, vibrant set with a lot to enjoy including “Saudade” with a guest string section!
