O’s Notes: Pallatto has an inviting voice that she blends well with her band. She opens with a heartfelt ballad dedicated to her mother. “As You Spend Your Life” has warm harmonies blending Joanie’s vocals with Howard Levy on piano & harmonica and Fareed Haque’s guitar. Pianist Bob Dorough guest stars on “Simone” also trading lyrics with Joanie and April Aloisio. We also enjoyed the reggae beats of “Playa Bonita” with Bradley Parker-Sparrow adding vocal improv and harmonica. Pallatto plays in several different configurations including the minimalist duets with either Haque’s or David Onderdonk (g). This leads to an enjoyable program of varied content. The common element of these songs is a rich emotional quotient.
