O’s Notes: You may not have heard of Yugoslavian vocalist Zana Messia but she brings a lot of talent to the stage. She launched her career in 1997 winning a Swedish reality-based talent competition. She now resides in LA, as do the members of the Balkan Soul Orchestra, and works under the tutelage of producer Harvey Mason (d, vibes, perc, marimba). The vibe is world jazz, Balkan vocals on top of jazzy riffs in several genres. It is fresh, global and welcomed.
