O’s Notes: Beka is a sixteen-year-old pianist from Tbilisi, Georgia making his recording debut with this self-titled release. Producer Lenny White ushers him onto the jazz scene and also plays drums on the album. Wallace Roney (t), Stanley Clarke (b), John Patitucci (b) and Victor Bailey (b) are among the supporting cast that helps make this a solid start for Beka. Natalia Kutaeladze adds vocals on “Herio Bichebo” to soften things up a bit. Gochiashvili undoubtedly has a long runway ahead of him. If you have any doubt, listen closely on “New York” or “When Almonds Blossomed” to name a couple!
