O’s Notes: Uruguayan tenor saxophonist and composer Florencia Gonzalez joined the New Jazz scene a few years ago and is making a splash with her debut Between Loves. Her tone is soft and warm. It blends well with the trumpet of Jonathan Powell, trombone from Shannon Bennett and bass of Fernando Huergo. Franco Pinnacle (d) anchors the beats with veteran pianist Luis Perdomo provides holds it all together. Among the best are the festive “Weird Pericon”, “Chacarera For Greg” and “The One Who Never Was”. Gonzalez shows lots of promise and is sure to be around for a while.
