O’s Notes: Bloom is a follow-up on Grace, and a continuation of Allen’s freebop groove. Jonathan Barber returns on drums with new comers Orrin Evans (p) and Alexander Claffy (b) rounding out the quartet . JD’s warm tenor sax takes the edge off of some of the far-reaching free numbers. Seven of ten are originals with cool covers of “If You Could See Me Now” and “Stardust” and the blues based “Car-Car” serving as grounding points for straight ahead jazz lovers.
