O’s Notes: Bassist and composer Bob Hurst leads a strong band including Branford Marsalis (sax), Jeff “Tain” Watts (d), Marcus Belgrave (t) and Bennie Maupin (fl, cl, sax). Bob has performed with these musicians in many different environment of a long period. They connect here to perform music of his soul. The program includes several well-developed pieces including the three-part “Middle Passage Suite” and the rousing “Jamming”. Bob’s bass is throaty and the compositions have a lot of depth making BoB A Palindrome an intriguing set.
