O’s Notes: Jazz singer Mark Murphy sings eleven jazz classics that were popularized by Miles Davis. Those familiar with Murphy know that his style is a unique combination of scatting, vocalese and gutsy singing. He’s on top of his game here and is complemented by a fine set of musicians including Peter Mihelich (p), Allan Praskin (sax), Achim Tang (b) and Vito Lesczak (d). Mark’s full immersion into the music extends to the listener. An example of the emotional exchange is on “Bye Bye Blackbird” which rouses the audience. We also liked his spectacular intro on “Green Dolphin Street” and “Parker’s Mood”. Add this to Murphy’s collection of fine recordings.
