O’s Notes: Boss Level features pianist Arturo O’Farrill and his sextet as they engage in a highly playful mode for a studio recording that followed a week of performing at Birdland in New York. Travis Reuter (g), Shawn Conley (b), Livio Almeida (sax) join Arturo along with his sons Zack (d) and Adam O’Farrill (t). Arturo was previewing a video game system one Christmas Eve and became infatuated by the thinking, mystery and overall entertaining factor of the games! He’s since enjoyed play with his sons, friends and alone. Video games are the inspiration for this recording, a racy, energetic sprint that allows O’Farrill to push the envelope in yet another direction. He and the band complete the game reaching the ultimate level and succeeding to beat the boss level while prodding us with a thrilling adventure.
