O’s Notes: Like many Americans, the sounds and rhythms of Brazilian bossa nova favorably influenced John. His first exposure came in 1981 and it led to him learning, playing and performing samba beats including touring Rio and São Paulo. This recording culminates his Brazilian experiences with 13 classics. The band is a mix of John’s usual quartet and some of Brazil’s best musicians including vocalist Daniel Jobim (Antonio Carlos Jobim’s grandson), Chiara Civello (vocals), Ray Kennedy (p), Martin Pizzarelli (b), Cesar Camargo Mariano (p) and John (g, vocals). Among the best is “Love Dance” which includes strings.
