O’s Notes: These two veteran alto sax players still have a lot of juice! They team up with Mike Wofford (p), Bob Magnusson (b) and drummer Bill Goodwin for this live session at Yoshi’s in Oakland, CA late in 2004. There are seven extended compositions both upbeat – “Bouncing With Bud” and relaxed – “Summer Serenade”. They also get dramatic on “Nature Boy” trading the lead and whispering pure emotion into the melody. The mild bossa nova beats of “Carousels” felt just right, as did the entire well-recorded (SACD) session.
