O’s Notes: There is a reason to be excited with this new CD featuring veteran saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi. He leads a quartet with Will Slater (b), Karen Kocharyan (d) and trumpeter Phil Grenadier. They reshape eight classic tunes into fresh creations. They are not much resemblance to the originals by most listeners but the proven compositions serve a fresh base for improvisation. Jerry’s approach results in a balanced attack that is entertaining start to finish!
