O’s Notes: Candlelight is a duet featuring violinist Juliet Kurtzman with pianist Pete Malinverni. They combine to bring us a dozen romantic, jazzy ballads rooted across the Americas with a taste of tango, some ragtime, blues, swing and romantic ballads. Juliet’s classical training surfaces in precision as she bathes us with soothing, rich ballads and impeccable tone on tunes like “Candlelights”. The spirit is playful on “Por Una Cabeza”. Malinverni shines on “Body and Soul”. Altogether the sound is fulfilling, so much so that we never wanted for more than the duo.
