O’s Notes: Pianist Mike Longo studied with the legendary Oscar Peterson for six months during the 1960s. The lessons he learned are imbedded in his mind and his playing most notably not playing like anyone but yourself! Mike Celebrates Oscar Peterson on this live trio outing June 25, 2013 in New York with Paul West (b) and Ray Mosca (d). They had no rehearsal but missed no beats with this spontaneous set of 13 classics. Longo incorporates Peterson’s timing, pace and touch in his own groove. The results are admirable and certainly worth a listen.
