O’s Notes: Pianist Eugene Marlow leads the Heritage Ensemble, a quintet that is dedicated to jazz transformation of Hebraic melodies. Current members of the group are Bobby Sanabria (d), Cristian Rivera (perc), Michael Hashim (sax) and Frank Wagner (b). The program is focused on the triumphs of Jewish people mostly from the Chanukah festivals. We found the arrangement to be quite good and enjoyable during the holidays as well during the rest of the year. Highlights are “Layehudim Haitah Orah….”, “Yotvata” and “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel”. The set concludes with a piece describing the Ensemble and their purpose. Nice work Eugene!
