O’s Notes: Welcome to the world of Cynthia Felton, a petite jazz vocalist who packs a punch much larger than you’d expect. She is the consummate over achiever having attended the prestigious Berklee and received her Bachelor’s degree. She also has a performance master’s from NYU and her jazz PhD from USC. All that paper does not overshadow her talent as a performer. Felton focuses on the music of Ellington for this CD and puts passion and drive into each song. She also engages some of the best jazz musicians on the planet including Cyrus Chestnut (p), Terri Lynn Carrington (d), Jeff Tain Watts (d), Patrice Rushen (p), Wallace Roney (t), Ernie Watts (sax) and Munyoungo Jackson (perc). We enjoyed Cynthia’s great range, depth, passion and execution on Come Sunday.
