O’s Notes: The ContraBand is J. Charles (as), Frank Seeberger (g), Eric Verlinde (p, organ), Chuck Kistler (b), D’Vonne Lewis (d) and leader Cliff Col n (ts) who arranged and co-produced the session. The music is derived from the 8-bit video game called Contra that was popular in the 1980s. Unfortunately we were not familiar with the game. The original composers are Kyouhei Sada and Hidenori Maezawa. I wonder what they’d think of this jazz-fusion take on their video track? We liked the cool mysterious feel of “Base” and the racing spirit of “Waterfall”. They are good representations of the energetic set.
