O’s Notes: This is a reissue of two of McPartland’s great works: 1994’s A Sentimental Journey and 1992’s McPartland Plays The Music of Alec Wilder. The latter is ten peaceful tracks that set the mood light. They are delightful. The 1994 session opens upbeat with a Dixie tune “Royal Garden Blues” followed by the swinging title track. Jimmy McPartland (cornet) and Jack Maheu (clarinet) make a strong presence on this set. These two albums are very different but done well, demonstrating Marian’s versatility.
