O’s Notes: Jerry plays a fat tenor sax leading his quartet on ten new original compositions. The program is mostly bebop but Bergonzi occasionally pushes the envelope into free jazz with some gruff tones from his sax. Our favorite of the set is “Squid Ink”. The band is Jerry’s core trio with the addition of pianist Bruce Barth. The well-integrated unit includes drummer Andrea Michelutti and bassist Dave Santoro. They seem to enjoy performing together and making their instruments flow together giving true meaning to the title Convergence.
