O’s Notes: This is jazz pianist Eddie Mendenhall’s debut recording as a leader. He selects a strong supporting cast featuring vibraphonist Mark Sherman. The interaction between these two players is excellent as they play tag with the melodies throughout the set. John Schifflett (b) and Akira Tana (d) are anchors who provide strong support especially on the title track. Eight of the songs are Eddie’s originals and they are easy to embrace. We enjoyed this one on all fronts and look forward to act two.
