O’s Notes: Plunge is trombonist Mark McGrain, Tim Green (saxophones) and bassist James Singleton. This is a rather unusual grouping but one that works rather well. McGrain extracts a lot of sound out of his trombone to take the lead on melodies with Green harmonizing along the way. Even Singleton takes the spotlight using the bow on “Life of A Cipher” and stretching out on “Opium”. Highlights are “The Praise Singer” and the abbreviated “Stickin’ Away” in a different but definitely cool performance.
