O’s Notes: The venerable bassist, Ron Carter puts together a tribute to his old boss, Miles Davis. The band is Ron’s quartet with Stephen Scott (p), Payton Crossley (d) and Roger Squitero (perc). It is a different tribute in many ways because while they play tunes from Miles’ songbook, they play them in their own style. Each musician shines, especially on “Cut And Paste” but Carter stands out, even at 70 with crisp solos throughout the set. “Bags Groove”, “As Time Goes By” and “595” are among the best!
