O’s Notes: Brandi is a bassist who writes her own music. She plays in several configurations from trio to sextet and including Sophia Perlman on a couple of vocals notably “If Only”. Sly Dumas (d) and David Virelles (p) add excellent solos on “Dandy Dangle”. Disterheft displays strong chops on “Dukes Dead” and compares favorably to her contemporaries. We liked the brass, Chris Gal (ts) & Alexander Brown (flugelhorn) and guitar work from Nathan Hiltz on “Sixty Dollar Train”. This is a well-balanced swinging set.
