O’s Notes: Variety is the spice of life and it is what makes Diversify stand out from the wrath of smooth jazz releases. Lao Tizer plays piano and leads a session that isn’t monotonous. He wrote all of the tunes that generally have funky beats courtesy of bassist Christopher Money and Drew Megna (d). The melodies are split between Lao, Jeff Kollman (g) and Andy Suzuki (sax). Jeff Kollman’s Spanish flamenco guitar is featured on “Olivas Adobe”. They slow it down on “A Hui Hou” featuring Chieli Minucci on guitar and Steve Nieves singing. But most contemporary fans will enjoy the upbeat grooves of “Flow”, “Summer Dayz” with Nieves scatting, and “Up A Notch”.
