O’s Notes: This is another album of vocal jazz standards featuring John Vance. He’s supported by a core rhythm section of Jeff Collela (p), Trey Henry (b) and Kendall Kay (d). Guest artists Stacey Rowles (t) and guitarist Larry Koonse add sparks on two and three tracks each and Collela has a cool solo on “Better Than Anything”. Song selection is very good and Vance puts his spin on the classics. The effect is more one-dimensional than the originals making this a more focused effort.
