O’s Notes: Veteran contemporary jazz pianist David Benoit took a break from the action in late 2008 moving from the racy left coast to the cooler relaxed pace if Saratoga (upstate New York). This environment facilitated the birth of Earthglow his latest release. It includes the Brazilian influenced “Botswana Bossa Nova” along with some more Euro chic club jazz. The later favors club beats and more electronics. Of course there is an abundance of Benoit’s trademark sound cast in this more global groove. Rick Braun plays muted trumpet on “Unbelievable” giving added punch to the effort. We liked the title track best and the cool bossa groove of “Sneaky As A Cat” where we feel the effects of David’s more relaxed environment! Benoit remains on top of his game.
