O’s Notes: 8-String guitarist and composer Fred Fried leads his trio Core with Michael Lavoie (b) and Miki Matsuki (d). This is their second release as a group and the chemistry is strong. Fried leads the charge with chord melodies with Lavoie taking the lead from time to time. Among the best are the fresh bouncy feel of “Spring Overture” and the subtle funky beats of “Little Tears”. The eleven songs are a relaxing contemporary jazz set.
