O’s Notes: This is a collection of three movements aimed at stimulating improvisation. His legendary father Don’s mid 1960s recordings inspired pianist David Cherry. The ensemble includes Billy Higgins (d), Justo Almario (reeds), Jon Williams (t) and Roberto Miranda (b). The first movement is more sporadic free form followed by a more soothing “Movement Two – We Remember When” that incorporates more air & space letting the instruments breathe. Cherry gets into more of a bop groove on “Movement Three – Start Off Fresh”, our pick of the set. Avant Garde lives!
