O’s Notes: Everybody likes Bill Evans on piano and hence the title is appropriate. His arrangements seem to be ideal. This is one of Orrin Keepnews’ favorites and the reissue is a worthy addition to your collection in this form with a bonus 10th track “Some Other Time”. It was Evans 2nd recording as a leader with Philly Joe Jones (d) and Sam Jones (b) coming after his stint as Miles’ pianist in his sextet. The trio worked well together showcasing Bill’s genius on keys. Eventually Evans succumbed to a heroine habit shortening what was a blossoming career. That makes this effort notable in his discography and worthy of recognition.
