O’s Notes: Boston-based saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi assembles a fine band for Extra Extra, recording in his home studio under the direction of producer, bassist Harvie S. The program is all (Bergonzi) originals including Harvie’s “The Truth” that displays Bergonzi’s exceptionally warm tone. Guitarist Sheryl Bailey reigns large on tunes like “Loudzee”. She makes her presence known throughout the session, supporting Bergonzi like a true partner. Harvie S does more than anchor the rhythm section. He shows up with notable solos, as on “They Knew”. Luther Gray play drums and Phil Grenadier plays trumpet on three tracks as well adding another layer of depth.
