O’s Notes: Mays (p) anchors a trio with Marvin Stamm (t) and Alisa Horn (cello). They open with Bill and Marvin trading the lead line on “Baubles, Bangles, and Beads” as a duo. Alisa joins them on “Vocalise” using a bow and making her presence known. She is even more pronounced on the “Fantasy” trilogy, a rather dramatic set of movements. We liked the warm sound and pace of the third. “Prelude #2” has blues characteristics while “Invention #8” is bubbly. This leans move towards classics than jazz but either audience may find solace in Fantasy.
